There is one skill all young people need to thrive in the workplace — today and in the future — and it's been around for thousands of years. The type of storytelling may not matter, because the platforms people use to communicate can rapidly change. IT business consultancy Gartner reportedly bought L2 Inc. for more than $130 million in 2017, according to regulatory filings. The importance of storytelling is particularly why young people shouldn't rely solely on generative artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT — not now, not ever, said Galloway. Management experts agree — understanding AI is important, but it isn't the sole skill needed to succeed at work.

group is organizing a boycott of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade over performances by nonbinary Broadway actors, in the latest attempt to force companies to reverse course on social issues that some far-right groups consider too liberal. But the parade has long had close ties to Broadway, one of the most L.G.B.T.Q. The group, which is called One Million Moms, says it has drawn about 33,000 signatures in support of its boycott. But it appears to have overplayed its hand, said Scott Galloway, a professor of marketing at New York University Stern School of Business. “I think this is the easiest ‘no’ in the history of Macy’s,” Mr. Galloway said.

Opinion: The shattering aftermath in Maui

CNN —The Polynesian demigod Maui was so powerful he could raise islands up from the ocean floor and capture the sun to slow it down. We know Lahaina will be rebuilt, and the government response — city, state and federal — will be a huge part of that. “You can beat the drum of ‘women’s rights’ and defend tooth-and-nail women’s sports, so long as you only do so to denigrate trans women.”For more on the World Cup:Shaista Aziz: This Women’s World Cup has been unlike any other. CNN —Will former President Donald Trump accept a plea deal, potentially sparing himself prison and sparing us all a repeat of his presidency? It’s a compelling argument, and one that would certainly be better for the nation than Trump winning in 2024 and pardoning himself; it would be better for Trump than winding up behind bars. Trump has been embroiled in thousands of lawsuits; he’s the first former president to face federal charges. Betting on a 2024 win is a big gamble for Trump, especially if the consequence of that loss isn’t just humiliation, but a jail cell. Join us on Twitter and FacebookThere is also the question of whether prosecutors would even offer a deal Trump might consider.

Slack's co-founder Cal Henderson shared his thoughts about remote work in an Insider interview. He said young people in some industries may struggle if they're not with colleagues in the office. Salesforce, the software company that owns Slack, recently mandated workers come to the office. It's a very different experience if your VP isn't there in the office with you as you work overnight on something." In regard to Musk's comments Henderson said: "Elon Musk isn't in the office every day because he's the CEO of three companies.

Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham said remote work "fooled" leaders at the start of the pandemic. Major firms including Amazon, Meta, and Apple have ordered workers back to the office recently. Partly I think because remote work does work initially, if you start with a system already healthy from in-person work ... And partly because it seemed to solve recruiting, which is always a bottleneck." Graham's comments come as a number of major companies reverse their flexible working policies including Amazon, Apple, and Goldman Sachs. Graham joins a list of influential figures who are taking a stand against remote work including Elon Musk who has famously waged a war against the practice calling it "morally wrong."

This is the reality for Apple's Vision Pro mixed-reality headset: It's another pair of nerd goggles that will make most people look decidedly uncool. For now, the Vision Pro has failed to do pull this off. Its hard to imagine Apple Vision Pro ever becoming cool. Would she be impressed by a guy wearing a $3,499 Apple Pro Vision headset? The ultimate goal is probably to pack all the prowess of the Vision Pro into a cool slim pair of glasses.

Why AI Will Make Our Children More Lonely

Tech gives us replacements for relationships, says Scott Galloway. ‘And in the short term it fills a void. But it’s empty calories, and I think you end up more depressed.’ Photo: John Scrivener for The Wall Street JournalScott Galloway, a founder of companies, board member of others, business-school professor and author, is outspoken in his criticism of today’s Big Tech-driven society. At the recent Wall Street Journal CEO Summit in London, he shared some of his views, along with an array of data points, in a wide-ranging, animated talk with Nikki Waller, coverage chief for life and work at The Wall Street Journal. Edited excerpts follow.
Sonders touted stocks that can weather inflation, recession, and higher interest rates. "You've got recessions in areas like certain segments of consumer goods, certainly in housing," Sonders said during a recent episode of "The Prof G Pod with Scott Galloway." Recession, inflation, and winning stocksSonders sounded the recession alarm during the interview. She singled out the housing market as particularly vulnerable, given valuations and mortgage rates are closely tied to interest rates. She suggested they look for companies that can thrive during periods of inflation, recession, and elevated interest rates.
ChatGPT, like other AI tools, suffers from a bias problem that could impede corporate adoption. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, admitted on Wednesday that ChatGPT has "shortcomings around bias", though he didn't go into detail. Unfortunately for OpenAI, ChatGPT has already had several cases of bias emerge. "You don't have to think very hard to realize there's an enormous quantity of toxic content of absolutely every variety imaginable that's present in that training data." Though OpenAI has found success so far, Wooldridge could see a scenario where the firm is pushed by customers to reveal its training data.
Long before Elon Musk came along, Twitter users bemoaned the service yet remained addicted to it. It is a text-based social platform, or "microblogging" site, home to independent servers, or "instances." In early November, the hashtag TwitterMigration was trending on Mastodon for several days as Twitter users set up accounts amid Musk's chaotic takeover. Daily users have held steady though, at 1.4 million, a major increase from its usage prior to Musk's takeover of Twitter, which typically hovered around 20,000 daily users. Downloads of the iOS app have grown 290,000% to 1.5 million since Oct. 24, with daily users up 660,000% to 321,000, according to Apptopia data.

NYU professor Scott Galloway spoke to Paul Constant about his book "Adrift: America in 100 Charts." Galloway says we need to bring back the middle class, but there's still hope for the US. This process offered him several important new insights into the decaying of the American middle class — and a surprising sign of optimism for the future. Galloway believes America has been its own worst enemy, with outsized political division keeping us from solving the problem of inequality. "First you have to acknowledge that the middle class is an accident, and it's not self-sustaining," Galloway said.
Critics of Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover say any plan to charge users for identity verification could make information on the site less trustworthy and more vulnerable to manipulation — devaluing the company. The idea of a monthly fee for the blue verification checkmark by users' names was reported Sunday by Casey Newton’s tech-focused newsletter Platformer. Musk hasn't confirmed a charge will be added but on Sunday tweeted, “The whole verification process is being revamped right now,” on his own verified account. Jeff Jarvis, a prolific Twitter user and journalism professor who studies how information travels in the digital age, worries such a plan could backfire. “Twitter has had many, many people working on issues like user interface design and innovation, testing it with user groups, and people who specialize in working with VITs — very important Twitter users,” she said.
The long term potential for Twitter in my view is an order of magnitude greater than its current value." "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app," Musk tweeted earlier this month. Twitter permanently suspended Trump for risk of further incitement of violence after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Tesla's expanding business in China, where it generated $14 billion last year, could also put Twitter at risk, Goldman, the former Twitter board member, said. Twitter is staffed with experts who review data requests from governments, but Musk has shown his contempt of these experts, he said.
Oct 28 (Reuters) - Why is Elon Musk suddenly thinking about creating an "everything app," and what does that even mean? WHAT IS A SUPER APP? Chinese super app WeChat has more than 1 billion monthly users, according to one estimate, and is a ubiquitous part of daily life in China. Grab, a leading super app across Southeast Asia, offers food delivery, ride-hailing, on-demand package delivery and financial services and investing. But the metaverse could be so much more than one man’s quest for control over our virtual lives. Like the real world (at least in any capitalist society), it has to incentivize individuals to participate in and grow the economy. The metaverse needs to be a reasonable facsimile of the real world, where I can spend my money and wear my Adidas where I want. Just as in the physical world, freedom is easily lost and our lives easily manipulated. No metaverse built by humans is going to be void of the human instinct to want power, and that power could be enormous.
